Improved ComiXology’s multi-platform user experience by optimizing web and mobile interfaces to support better content discovery, increased engagement, and publisher consistency. Led enhancements to user flow and digital storefront navigation across devices, resulting in a more intuitive and immersive comic browsing experience. Collaborated on high-impact marketing assets—promotional banners, print ads, and email campaigns—to support subscriber growth. Streamlined branded mobile experiences for top publishers including Marvel, DC Comics, and Image Comics, ensuring alignment with each brand’s voice and usability expectations.

The Challenge

ComiXology, a leading digital comics platform, aimed to enhance its user experience across web and mobile interfaces to better serve a diverse audience of comic enthusiasts. The goal was to streamline navigation, improve content discovery, and ensure brand consistency across various digital touchpoints.

Discovery & Research

User Pain Points Identified:

  • Complex navigation hindering content discovery.
  • Inconsistent branding across different platforms.
  • Limited engagement with promotional content.

Research Activities:

  • Conducted user interviews and usability testing to gather feedback on existing interfaces.
  • Analyzed user behavior data to identify drop-off points and areas of friction.
  • Reviewed competitor platforms to benchmark best practices in digital content delivery.

Ideation & Iteration

Concept Development:

  • Developed wireframes focusing on intuitive navigation and personalized content recommendations.
  • Created prototypes to test new layouts and interactive elements aimed at enhancing user engagement.

Design Decisions:

  • Implemented a modular design system to ensure consistency across web and mobile platforms.
  • Introduced dynamic content sections to highlight new and popular titles, improving content discoverability.
  • Optimized the checkout process to reduce friction and improve conversion rates.

Visual Design & Systems

Typography & Color:

  • Selected a clean, sans-serif typeface for readability across devices.
  • Utilized a vibrant color palette to align with the dynamic nature of comic content and to draw attention to key interactive elements.

Layout Logic:

  • Adopted a responsive grid system to ensure seamless user experience across various screen sizes.
  • Prioritized content hierarchy to guide users through the platform intuitively.

  • Balanced modern design aesthetics with the rich visual heritage of comic art to appeal to both new and existing users.
